Selma & Andre from Expressions Photography met Vanessa and Sven in December 2012 when they photographed their intimate wedding in Cape Town. These two crept into their hearts in the short time they spent with them, and Andre & Selma felt sad parting ways knowing that they would probably never see them again. Little did they know that they would actually be there to photograph their “second” wedding back home in Germany. The setting for the couple shoot was an old disused coalmine that has been proclaimed an UNESCO World Heritage Site. An absolute photographer’s heaven! The reception took place in the trendy harbour district, another area with awesome photography potential.
Selma & Andre say:”After getting to know these two gorgeous souls on a more personal level, you can imagine that the second ‘goodbye’ was even harder than the first one! Vanessa and Sven, you are the most beautiful couple, inside and out! We are so honoured that you picked us!”
I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met
Almost 7 years ago we got to know and love each other. We met incidentally via the “new media” (internet). After we had overcome the somewhat bumpy, unusual and little romantic beginning of our relationship (due to Sven’s medical condition) everything happened quite fast. A few months later we went to Portugal on our first vacation together, which was supposed to be a “test” in order to find out whether we were ready to move in together. Even though I didn’t know about this test I passed it and after about one year of being in a relationship we were living together in our first apartment in Essen, Germany. Very soon Sven knew that I was the one he was going to marry one day but in the end it took him almost 6 years of being in a relationship to finally take that step and ask me whether I would like to marry him on a vacation in South Africa. Obviously I said yes!!
Bride & Prejudice | Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning
In December 2012 – after months of secretly organising – we made our dream of an intimate beach wedding come true! On December 27th we (secretly) tied the knot at a private ceremony on one of Cape Town’s beaches – only close family knew about it. It was even more perfect than we could have ever imagined, we will treasure this special day forever. Back home in Germany we had the reception with family and friends at a great venue in the inner harbour of Duisburg. Even though we had surprised everyone, they were so happy for us and we had a great party.
My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique
Actually for me, the bride, it was a very relaxing day, since I didn’t have to take care of anything. I wasn’t nervous since I was distracted all day – by the hair and make-up artist, our videographer and photographers who kept me company. Poor Sven therefore had some alone time and he actually was quite nervous! The only moment I all of a sudden felt the same way was the minutes before we actually “met” before the ceremony – the first time he would see me. Ladies, it`s a magical moment! The second I saw in his eyes that he was happy with what he saw I was as relaxed as I had been before – plus 1000 times happier and excited!
