This shoot was inspired by the Golden Age, infused with flavours of African extravagance. David Tlale’s gorgeous gowns are an expression of sheer glamour. A careful selection of sensational Shimansky jewellery pieces complimented the theme of affluence and prosperity. Benjamin Adams’s crystal encrusted gold shoes added sensational finishing touches to the overall styling. Christiaan David Photography captured this shoot in style and Evegenia Poplett from Splendid Affairs took the lead in organizing & styling of this shoot in conjunction with Nubian Bride Magazine.
Summer Place lends itself to a spectacular and sophisticated setting for a wedding inspired by luxury and gold! Summer Place combines classic design, décor and ambience with sheer joi de vivre, harmoniously and elegantly. Its character is generous rather than rich, welcoming its guests without overwhelming them. It is a place for most the discerning and distinguished couples.
Gold is a perfect choice for a wedding because it exudes everything that is regal, alluring, fascinating and grand. The renewed fascination with gold comes from a worldwide craving for beauty, a renaissance and awaking to opulence that has been shelved in the last decade. The world is recovering from recession, loss and pain of natural disasters and wars; just like 100 years ago when the world was entering into transformation, I feel that we too are going through the same. Perhaps that’s why we are drawn to the glitz and glamour of the 1920s – the age of frivolous fun and abundance. Celebrations are taking on a whole new meaning too. It is not only about celebrating couple’s love anymore but about celebrating their heritage, family achievements and personal successes.
When it came to styling the decor, my desire was to provide a look that exudes wealth, prosperity and ultimate beauty, yet doing so at very achievable and practical levels for South African couples. If you study the table carefully it is extremely simplistic in terms of the design yet there is unmistakable opulence. To achieve this look we chose a taupe tablecloth to set the tone and then layered it with gold accents – baseplates, candles, ribbon and gold rimmed crystal glasses. However, the statement came from the urns, planters and candlesticks which took on a new life when made in gold – all were custom made specifically for this look. Gold tiffany chairs provided a stunning periphery for each table. You will notice that we played with the heavy textures of the gold urns and the light and ethereal nature of glass. This combination provides unmistakable levels of sophistication and grace. Everything you see here is readily available in South Africa all year around.
Roses and hydrangeas we selected for this beautiful table setting. The magnificence of white roses paired with its cream counterpart creates an unprecedented statement – yes, we are beautiful! Hydrangeas are soft, elegant and sophisticated flowers and look dazzling in the gold containers and a tall glass vase. The glass vase gave a regal height to the arrangement. Simple selection of flowers along with luxurious setting and bold choice of decor created breathtakingly beautiful arrangements.
Carike from Canvas Stationery Boutique says that with the rise of gold to the top of the list of favourite wedding colours, the pathway to using more glamorous printing techniques is laid. Trendy gold foiling and traditional golden wax seals come together to set a brand new trend in wedding invitations. With the regal style of this shoot, a fine balance needed to be maintained between the fashionable new techniques and more subdued, classic design. So we combined classic typography with soft scrolls on shimmer paper and polished the design off with a glamorous foiling technique and traditional wax seal. The result is classic, yet trendy.
