Phillip and Alreze had their wedding at the majestic Kuthaba Lodge in the Waterberg Mountain Range in Limpopo. We love all the natural colours with the splashes of pink used throughout the wedding! Thank you, Susan du Toit, for submitting this beautiful feature. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
Lovebirds | How did you two meet?
One week before he moved abroad for his Master’s studies we met very briefly in the gym, being introduced by a mutual friend. Knowing that he was moving away he did not pay much attention at first and wasn’t looking to ‘meet’ anyone.
Shortly after him being oversees we began to chat on Facebook, which led to Whatsapp, which led to hours end of Skyping every night. Soon we knew each other better than our own families did. We started a long distance relationship which carried on when he returned to SA one year later. In that time I managed to visit him abroad once, and him me, surprising me on my birthday.
I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?
A surprise visit to an isolated Karoo ‘getaway’ weekend; on the day of the proposal I came out the shower in the chalet, Phillip was missing, instead I found a scrap of paper with directions to a secret lookout point in the desert. I finished up and got in the car. Arriving at the location to find a fully set table with champagne, overlooking the valley, with the sun setting on the dusty horizon. He was standing there waiting for me next to an old wooden cross that overlooked the landscape. After the proposal we were served a specially organised meal under millions of stars. Just the two of us and the desert
The Big Day | What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?
The father and bride dance. My dad gets very emotional when it comes to me and my sister. I knew it was going to be a teary dance, but instead of tears we danced, smiled and sang along with Butterfly Kisses celebrating a very beautiful moment.
Describe your wedding day in one sentence
A hasty morning of schedules playing out like a well oiled machine followed by an afternoon of tranquility and union of spirits and an evening of love, laughter and excitement.
Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides?
We chose to have an entire weekend wedding as we had been told by many before us that “the day goes so quickly”. Well the weekend went just as fast so my advice would be not get worked up or stressed out about anything, let your mother or bridesmaids do the worrying. Soak up the moment and enjoy the now. Most importantly remember why you are there, it’s not to impress anyone. You are there to make a promise to one person only.
P.S. one more thing – ask some friends to stay behind with you to help clean up afterwards!
