Laura and Alexander’s love story sounds like the start of a fairy tale… they met in South Africa, although they are both from Germany. It was meant to be! Lilac Photography captured the couple beautifully. Enjoy these gorgeous pictures.
Lovebirds | How did you two meet?
We first met in South Africa 5 years ago. Alex and me worked on a social project for a primary school near Witbank. As a carpenter Alex built a timbered house for the kids, while I was teaching them in maths. During work we got to know each other better and found out that we live in neighbouring towns in Germany. So I had to travel to the end of Africa to found the love of my life. Alex felt the same way about me and so we had our first kiss at the roofing ceremony as the house was finished.
I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?
In January 2016 Alex surprised me with the proposal in our house in Germany which was lovely decorated. As he fell on his knee and asked me to become his wife, he put me the most beautiful engagement ring on and suddenly all our friends entered the room, because they could see the proposal live on the Go Pro and we had a great party. He later told me that a few days before he asked my parents for permission to the marriage like it is traditional in Germany. It was so romantic.
The Big Day | What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?
The most memorable moment was when i could sign with my new surname and Alex named me his wife.
Describe your wedding day in one sentence
22 hours full of love, family & friends. Just fantastic.
Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides?
You are the bride and it is your day, so if you need to change your shoes from high heels to a pair of comfortable slippers – just do it. And be yourself. We loved the theme of our wedding because it was ‘us’! We wanted the day to be a combination of both our styles in everyday life.
