Newcomer and now top photographer Nerize Raath is sharing her amazing work with us. Nerize says:”Philip & Elaine are the sweetest couple – very caring and filled with lots of love for others and of course, each other! That is exactly what was reflected on their beautiful winter wedding day…” One of Wedding Friends’ favourite Wedding Film Maker Jacques Crafford from Silent Video Productions made sure every moment was captured in style.
I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met
Our adventure began in 2009 on a blind date organised by mutual friends who clearly knew us much better than we thought. Both a bit skeptic, but adventurous at heart, we embraced the opportunity … nothing to lose right? The evening ended with us being kindly asked to leave as the restaurant was closing. Needless to say, it was a match made in heaven! Philip realised it from the start, I needed some persuasion. Lucky for me he never gave up. His hard “work” paid off … for my heart will remain his forever :)
It was a very hot and humid Saturday (8 December 2012) morning in Potchefstroom. We planned to have breakfast in Parys and return for lunch with friends in Potchefstroom. On our way to Parys we had to make a quick stop at Kiepersol to pick up something for a friend. Philip started chatting with the owner who offered to take us on a game drive through the koppies. A bit disgusted with the fact that we were going to miss our breakfast and that I was not appropriately dressed for a drive in 30+ degrees (pretty pink dress, sandals, no sunglasses, no hat) on a very old Landy with wooden benches. To top it all, as we arrived at one of the camps the driver told us to walk for a while; he was just quickly going to fetch his grandchildren! Too upset to be suspicious, I walked with Philip a few meters down the koppie (not saying much, and he was just smiling, really taking my bad mood quite well), we found a tented camp and he spilled the beans. It was a surprise breakfast! I barely had chance to feel bad about my attitude when he dropped onto one knee and proposed! It was wonderful! But it wasn’t over…we went back to Potchefstroom for our planned lunch just to find that Philip managed to gather close family and friends (my parents live 400 km away) for the engagement party. It was next to my wedding day the absolute best day of my life!
My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique
Our hearts longed for hot chocolate and marshmallows beside a cosy fire. With Philip and I being very laid-back and easy-going, we wanted our big day to be memorable, uncomplicated and fun. After a few cold fronts the day (20 July 2013) promised to be sunny. I wore a sleeveless dress (the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen, named Isadora Marie by Maggie Sottero). Butterflies, excitement and an overwhelming sense of joy eased the cold winter’s breeze. Laughter and fun filled the air and set the tone for the beginning of our happily ever after! The music got people out of their chairs. Good food made everyone smile. The warmth of the gas heaters made you forget that it was winter outside. Crazy hats, glasses, clever signs and funny (some strange) poses in front of Nerize Raath’s camera provided for loads of fun! Perhaps we were oblivious of the things that didn’t go according to plan, or perhaps our planning left room for variation, everything just felt like it came together perfectly…surely the handy work of Someone who loves us dearly.
Don’t Tell The Bride | Reveal something that happened behind the scenes
Living in a world with so many possibilities, some things are bound to turnout differently from what you would expect. You would expect the brother of the bridegroom (one of the best men as well) to remember to bring something to wear for the wedding, but I guess it’s not always the case, hahaha. Philip’s brother forgot his suit in JHB, luckily friends could bring it along. In the meanwhile he had to borrow a suit from his dad for the photos. From the beginning we decided that the guys would wear waist coats. I guess I executed this poorly, left it a bit late…on the day of the wedding they realised Philip and my brother’s waist coat was the wrong size! Someone let it slip out…I was too excited to get anxious. In any way, it was minor in my head, I was marrying the man of my dreams that was all that mattered. The rest only made the story more interesting.
