We are proud to showcase another masterpiece from SA’s top photographer Brett Florens today on Wedding Friends. The setting of this beautiful wedding was the beautiful city of Florence, the most popular city in the Tuscany. The couple is sharing their love story with us.
I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met
Sarah and I first met 6 years ago in Barcelona, where we both lived and worked. She was introduced to me by a mutual friend (who then went on to be best man!). The spark was instant but, given the fact that at the time we both already had partners we became best friends, until we were both single and decided to take the next step in our relationship. We traveled the world together before coming back to Sarah’s hometown of Florence, Italy to settle down. When the time came to propose, I had organized a romantic dinner at one of the best restaurants in Florence to be followed by the big question… Unfortunately, my plans were ruined when I got a phone call telling me that Sarah had been rushed into hospital and needed an operation. I went to the hospital with the ring in my bag, thinking to wait until she got better to pop the question. When I got there, finding her obviously upset and preoccupied, she said to me “Bring me something to make me feel better.” I saw this as my opportunity and got down on one knee in the ward and gave her the ring.
Bride & Prejudice | Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning
The weekend of the wedding, we had a lot of family and friends in Florence so we arranged a few other events – an evening Roof Garden reception at the Boscolo hotel on the Friday evening and a drinks reception in an ‘art’ hotel for the Saturday night – both very memorable experiences and a great introduction to our wedding day.
My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique
Our wedding ceremony was held at 4.30 in the afternoon, so we had all day to prepare, to take some fantastic photos around the city, and some time to relax with my groomsmen before the wedding. The ceremony was perfect and we set off for the villa for an amazing dinner and drinks. Luckily the weather was fantastic so we could use the beautiful garden before and after dinner. Everything went smoothly thanks to our event organizer Rebecca and everybody had an enjoyable evening with wonderful Tuscan food and great music from our band and our DJ Mattia. One of the highlights of the evening for us was sneaking off from the reception with our photographer Brett Florens, who took us into the grounds of the villa for an after-dark photo shoot, we had so much fun doing it and the photos are really stunning.
Don’t Tell The Bride | Reveal something that happened behind the scenes
After looking at many venues, we had found a beautiful castle in the hills of Fiesole, overlooking the whole of the city of Florence, but on Halloween, during an event they were hosting, the main staircase collapsed and the castle was to be closed for at least a year, so our reception, which was to be held in 7 months’ time, was cancelled. It actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as, soon after, we found the stunning Villa Viviani, which had the most incredible Italian garden and an even better view over the beautiful city!

My advice is just to take it easy, have a great time and don’t get stressed out by trivial things. It’s your day and it happens once in a lifetime – enjoy it!
