Louise Vorster Photography has become a local on Wedding Friends and we love her work. She is sharing a spectacular wedding shoot at Green Leaves, a beautiful venue in Hartbeespoort Dam. The couple is telling us more about themselves and their big day.
I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you me
It is true that you meet someone when you least expect it. We both happened to attend the same rugby game one fateful Saturday afternoon. I was out with my sister and her friends and Peter was out with friends that he hadn’t seen in a while. It was only until later that night that we met at a pub that both groups had ended up at after the big game. It wasn’t even a pub that myself or Peter went to often! Somehow, in this crowded pub, we got chatting while trying to buy drinks. I suppose they say the rest is history….well not exactly. After messaging and chatting for over 3 weeks, I thought Peter would never ask me out. Eventually he did (he said he needed to pluck up the courage!). Our first date was amazing but it was the second date that really won me over. He offered to cook for me at his house. As soon as I walked into his house that evening I knew he was someone special. He had been cooking up a storm all day, just to impress me. And that is exactly who he is…the most caring, loving and thoughtful person. After dating for about a year and a half we inevitably started chatting about marriage. I told him there were 2 conditions in order to propose, firstly he had to ask my parents and secondly he had to surprise me (Peter can’t keep anything to himself so I thought the second condition would be harder). And surprise me he did….one Friday night, while having a quiet braai at home, Peter got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. You see, even though he had picnics and hot air balloon rides planned, he just couldn’t wait and he did it in the most romantic way possible, in our most favorite and special place – our home. The rest is history.
Bride & Prejudice | Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning
We planned the whole wedding as a team, from the venue hunting and decor to the flowers and invitations, Peter and I did it all together. One of the most memorable moments was when we went to Green Leaves to do our food tasting. They had set up a beautiful table overlooking the mountain just for the two of us. I think that was the moment that made it feel so real for both of us. And it was so special to enjoy our wedding meal, in the beautiful setting, just the two of us (since the wedding day itself is a lot busier!)
My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique
You could describe our wedding as elegant and sophisticated. We wanted a modern touch on the traditional wedding look. In order to achieve this we used lots of glass, candles, fairy lights and mirrors. This created a “fairy tale” feel. We chose a very neutral and natural colour palate for the wedding. The flowers were all white, bridesmaids dresses were pale pinks and peaches and the groomsmen wore grey and silver. We added special touches like having a candy bar instead of traditional thank you gifts, a white cupcake tower with a cheesecake on top as our wedding cake and all of the guests wrote messages for us on a 9litre bottle of wine instead of the traditional guest book. The wedding was very much a reflection of us as a couple.
Don’t Tell The Bride | Reveal something that happened behind the scenes
I think that we were both so nervous for our first dance. Our dancing coordination is somewhat limited so we had signed up for dance classes a month before the wedding. We had an amazing dance teacher which helped us put together a routine. So we were so nervous on the night to do our first dance. However, it went off perfectly and we had so much fun. I think we might have even had a cheer or two from our guests!
No More Wedding Woes | Share your wedding advice for future brides
Everything does work out perfectly in the end, so relax and enjoy it. I had many lists and schedules leading up to the day. However, when I arrived at the venue that morning, I took off my watch as I was not going to worry about schedules on the day, I just wanted to enjoy every moment. It really was the best day ever!
