The “Koue Bokkeveld” is just another one of South Africa’s many jewels. So did Theron and Annette chose to share their most special day there. Known as one of SA’s coldest mountain ranges, this location was perfect for their wedding day. Michelle Joubert-Martin photographed the day and she was just as excited as the couple themselves. Enjoy today’s wedding with us and may you be inspired!
Lovebirds | How did you two meet?
We attended the same high school, we met at an event and started dating a while after that… So we were high scool sweethearts, we went out for 9 years and mostly stayed in different towns.
I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?
We were on our way back from a weekend away, and he told me to look at the beautiful flowers at the side of the road. He stopped to pick me one and handed me a protea…he told me to look at how pretty the flower was inside and I saw a beautiful ring sparkling inside.
The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day?
There were so many! We wanted a relaxed wedding with a farm feeling as Theron is a farmer and we love nature. We wanted to get married outside underneath the trees, but the weather didn’t allow it and we got married in the church on the farm that was very special as well. We wanted a simplistic wedding, without unnecessary stuff with a touch of red. We had 3 months to plan the wedding so we tried to focus on the bigger picture.
The wedding was very much a DIY project. My mother and some friends just randomly put the flowers in the vases, mom crocheted a few flags and made the runners on the table. We had magnets made by a family member as gifts and I bought a few things at our local second hand store for decorations. Another friend made the wedding cake.
I Quote | Describe in one sentence your wedding day
Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides
Keep in mind the day is only the beginning and the marriage and the wows are the important things. Don’t sweat the small stuff / details or try to plan the day to much and enjoy. Get somebody to make a DVD.
