“Michele and Dave had a stunning DIY carnival-themed wedding that was unlike anything I have seen before”, says their photographer Niki M Photography – their own special brand of wedding that represented them perfectly. Everything about this couple is happy and sunshiny! David & Michele Minne got married at Thatchwoods in Port Elizabeth earlier this year. Their photographer of choice was Niki M Photography, who shares her amazing work with us today. The bride gives us some insights on her special day!
I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met
Dave was my youth leader at church and now I can finally admit, now that we are officially married, that I fancied him from a distance for a while. We “landed up” in the same group for a youth game and finally we officially met!
Bride & Prejudice | Express some memorable experiences
Our wedding was all DIY, so I would have to say some of the most memorable moments were the moments after making all the different bits of decor. I could always picture it in my head, but after making each little extra I always felt so overwhelmed and excited about the end product! A day of making DIYs with my bridesmaids was always a memorable “event”! We would always plan yummy eats and drinks and it was just such a fun bonding time for us! The feeling after my dress finally came together, was by far the most exciting moment for me. I finally felt like a bride and I remember thinking, ‘I don’t care if everything else isn’t ready. I have my dress now, so now I can get married!’ Practicing our first dance was also really emotional, as cheesy as it sounds! This made everything seem so much more real!
My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique
It’s quite difficult for me to pin point a unique/funny event, as our wedding day was very unique. I wore sneakers and arrived on a tractor. Our guests sat on hay bales and we had a candy floss machine as well as a popcorn machine and my bridesmaids carried helium balloons down the aisle instead of flowers…
Don’t Tell The Bride | Reveal something that happened behind the scenes
I heard after our wedding day that our DJ arrived late for our wedding ceremony, apparently he arrived just a couple of minutes before I arrived!
No More Wedding Woes | Share your wedding advice for future brides
Always remember who you are when planning your wedding! A wedding should portray the couple getting married! Choose what makes you and your partner happy, even if others may find it cheesy or strange! While planning our wedding people would ask about the decor or finer details and whenever I shared anything people were mortified! However looking back I am so happy I didn’t change anything . We loved everything about our wedding and it really was “so us”! In my opinion a wedding should be a “cute summary” of your life with your partner. Be as natural as you are every day on your wedding day!!
