Lovebirds | How did you two meet?
We met at a bar, like all great couples do ;)
I was in Cape Town for three months when I met Johann out a bar one night with a friend…We started chatting, and immediately hit it off and decided to go out on a date a few nights later. Although I had enjoyed his company, my expectations were quite low going into the date because I knew I would be going back to the USA in a few short months.
It’s hard for me to describe, but at some point during our conversation, everything just shifted and I knew that I had met someone who was going to change my life… And here we are, five years later!
I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?
Johann offered to pick me up from work one Friday evening and suggested that we grab dinner… What normally is a 20 minute commute ended up taking 2 hours because there was a cricket game at Newlands. Johann hates traffic, but he was acting quite chipper, which I assumed was because it was weekend, and not that he had a diamond in his pocket!
By the time we got home, I was starving, so I ran into the kitchen and shoved a handful of almonds into my mouth when I turned around to find him kneeling on the kitchen floor… His proposal was nothing fancy, but it was real and honest, which is a lot like us.
The Big Day | What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?
The most memorable moment of my wedding was when the church doors opened and I saw Johann for the first time. Although its one of those moments you think about your whole life, nothing can really prepare you for the intensity of that moment. And then to have the most important people in your life there to witness it makes it all the more spectacular. It is a moment I’d like to bottle up and take with me for the rest of my life.

Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides?
Hire a wedding planner. This is, without a doubt, my biggest regret. Although I had a coordinator for the day-of (who was fantastic), I wish I had hired her at the outset of the planning process because she would’ve taken away a lot of my dress in the days leading up to the wedding.
