Herman & Marizaan’s Memorable Zorgvliet Wedding

After maintaining a long distance relationship for years, Herman and Marizaan tied the knot at the beautiful Zorgvliet Wine Estate and their special canine friend, Sam, joined the ceremony.

These breathtaking pictures were taken by Inecke Photography.

Lovebirds | How did you two meet?

I visited my best friend in Stellenbosch. She introduced me to her new friends in Wilgenhof. One of them being…Herman Carstens. And so it all started. Even though I had to finish my audiology studies at the University of Pretoria we managed the long distance story perfectly. After we’ve almost bought shares in Kulula for 5 years we could finally be in Stellenbosch together.

I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?

Every 1st of the month we celebrated our anniversary. So nothing was out of the ordinary that day…1 March 2015. We are a very active, adventurous and ‘running’ couple, so we went for a hike. He was very upset when he realised his go-pro’s battery was flat. The three of us Herman, myself and Sam (our Border Collie) went up to the “Saaltjie”. A wood platform on top of a mountain, surrounded by the Jonkershoek and Franshhoek mountains. He played our one favourite song, took out the bubbly and went down on one knee… We finished the bubbly up there alone – I felt like I was on top of the world.

The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

It is difficult to only name one. But one picture I will never forget was when Sam brought our rings into the church. It was the best- it was like he was trained for that moment his whole life. He sat there and was fascinated by us and the bagpipes in the gallery.

I Quote | Describe in one sentence your wedding day

‘ It was the perfect day to become Herman’s wife’
