DIY Wedding Hair Hacks

We have all been there — you want something “beachy” or “modern” done to your hair for an event, so you go and pay big bucks only to end up with that tightly curled classic updo you were trying to avoid. Thankfully, we have some easy hair hacks for you that could save your wedding day and your wallet!

French Twist

For a modern, relaxed french twist, prep your locks with a texture spray. Finger comb it out while you blow dry it with cold air only. To add potential volume, lightly tease your crown and the sides of your head with a teasing comb. Finger comb your hair as you would if you were putting it up in a middle height ponytail. Curl your hair inward from the ends until you’ve reached your head. To add height, loosen the hair slightly at your crown. Secure the twist with bobby pins, and be careful not to flatten it! Spray hair lightly with a strong hold hairspray.

Messy Side Bun

This twisting style is easy to do and looks effortlessly beautiful for any big day! Start by side parting your hair. Brush the front section of hair straight down and then to the ear for a gorgeous side swept bang. Use bobby pins to secure that part. Tease hair at the crown to add a little volume and separate hair into top and bottom sections. Create a low positioned messy side bun with the bottom section. To do this, pull the hair half way through a hair elastic and use bobby pins to secure it. Then twist your top section hair around this bun and pin to secure. Voila, just add some hairspray to keep it all in place!

Destination Wedding Hair

There is a reason everyone is obsessed with beach waves. Nothing looks more elegant, natural, and fuss-free. Accomplishing this lustrous look can be a task, especially in the wrong hands. Start with adding mousse to damp roots before blow drying, then use your favorite heat defense spray to prep your hair. To add waves, use a curling iron. Be sure to point it at a 45-degree angle! Gently comb through warm hair with fingers to separate any full curls and then spray with hairspray. If you’re having a destination wedding, this is a great beachy look!

Half Up

Can’t decide on an up-do? Easy — compromise with a stylish pompadour. This look is especially perfect for veil-wearing brides. To begin, section out the front of your hair and pull it straight upwards. Next, tease the back of this section and hairspray it for volume. Smooth the front of the section over the back, careful not to flatten, and pin into place. Now, brush the sides of your hair back and secure those two sections with elastics, hiding the original bobby pins. Spray to add shine if wanted.

Practice these styles on yourself, or have someone you love test them out leading up to your wedding day. Once the style you love is accomplished, you’ll be saving money and looking perfect on your big day. If you’re having a cold season celebration, consider choosing one of these winter wedding hairstyles.
